Moaddel finds evidence of changing attitudes among Saudis in the last decade

Using newly collected survey data in Saudi Arabia, this recent article by Mansoor Moaddel and Julie de Jong documents an increasing desire for individualist values, democracy, gender equality, less intrusion in daily life by religious authorities, and a wider recognition of national rather than religious identity among Saudis today. On some of these measures, the changes in values are more remarkable among Saudi youth than among their elders.
